A Simple Characterization on Serially Constructible Episodes
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper gives a simple characterization of episodes in episode mining that are constructible from just information for occurrences of serial episodes, called serially constructible episodes. First, we formulate an episode as an acyclic transitive labeled digraph of which label is an event type in episode mining. Next, we introduce a parallel-free episode that always has an arc between vertices with the same label. Also we formulate a serially constructible episode as an episode embedded into every parallel-free episode containing all of the serial episodes occurring in it. Then, we show that an episode is parallel-free if and only if it is serially constructible.

Description of algebraically constructible functions
The algebraically constructible functions on a real algebraic set are the sums of signs of polynomials on this set. We prove a formula giving the minimal number of polynomials needed to write generically a given algebraically constructible function as a sum of signs. We also prove a characterization of the polynomials appearing in a generic presentation of the function with the minimal number o...
متن کاملRefining the Definition of BPD: Characterization of Intercurrent Episodes
Background: The main definitions of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), proposed by Jobe-Bancalari, Shennan et al., and Walsh et al., focus on oxygen (O2)-need and ventilatory support for the first weeks of life and at 36 weeks of post-menstrual age (PMA). Oxygen need at 36 weeks of PMA is sometimes due to intercurrent episodes (IEs) other than BPD. The aim of this retrospective study was to char...
متن کاملAlgebraically Constructible Functions and Signs of Polynomials
Let W be a real algebraic set. We show that the following families of integervalued functions on W coincide: (i) the functions of the form w → χ(Xw), where Xw are the fibres of a regular morphism f : X → W of real algebraic sets, (ii) the functions of the form w → χ(Xw), where Xw are the fibres of a proper regular morphism f : X →W of real algebraic sets, (iii) the finite sums of signs of polyn...
متن کاملOn the Milnor Classes of Complex Hypersurfaces
We revisit known results about the Milnor class of a singular complex hypersurface, and rephrase some of them in a way that allows for a better comparison with the topological formula of Cappell and Shaneson for the Lclass of such a hypersurface. Our approach is based on Verdier’s specialization property for the Chern-MacPherson class, and simple constructible function calculus.
متن کاملMining Frequent Elliptic Episodes from Event Sequences
In this paper, we formulate an episode in episode mining as an acyclic transitive labeled digraph. Also we introduce an elliptic episode s → [S1, . . . , Sn] → t such that s and t are event types, [S1, . . . , Sn] is a sequence of serial episodes, and every pair of Si and Sj shares no same event type. Then, we show that every elliptic episode is constructible from serial episodes. Next, in this...
